Services and Investment
St. Louis In-Person Counseling
At Compassionate Counseling St. Louis, we offer both in-office and virtual therapy options to fit your family’s needs. Sessions occur at the same time each week, providing consistency and predictability for your child—something we know is essential for progress.
Online Therapy in Missouri
We are licensed to provide virtual therapy for clients throughout Missouri. Virtual sessions are perfect for those unable to meet in person or for making up a session if your child is under the weather. This flexible option helps keep therapy on track while avoiding late cancellation fees.
Parent Involvement
For kids and preteens, sessions are a mix of parent and child time. We spend the first 10 minutes checking in with you before transitioning to one-on-one time with your child. This structure allows us to ensure alignment while giving your child space to work on their goals.
Parents of children 13 and younger will also have a dedicated 45-minute parent check-in session between sessions 3 and 4 to review progress and address any concerns. For parents of teens, this session is optional but highly encouraged!
Between-Session Support
We understand that challenges don’t always follow a schedule. If you need to check in between weekly appointments, phone consultations under 10 minutes are complimentary. For longer calls, a prorated fee based on your session rate will apply in 15-minute increments. If frequent check-ins are necessary, we may recommend increasing the frequency of sessions to better meet your family’s needs.
Investment in Therapy
Therapy is an investment in your child’s emotional health, resiliency, and ability to navigate life’s challenges with confidence. At Compassionate Counseling St. Louis, we work to ensure that every session provides meaningful progress toward those goals.
Our rates reflect the high-quality, specialized care we offer:
45-minute session: $205
60-minute session: $255
75-minute session: $305
We know this is a significant commitment, and we’re here to help. Many families use Out of Network (OON) insurance reimbursement to offset the cost of therapy. To make this process easier, we’ve created an Out of Network Insurance Guide below, which walks you through the steps to explore potential reimbursement options.
If we’re not the best fit financially or clinically, we’ll gladly connect you to other great resources in St. Louis to support your child and family.
Session Length and Scheduling:
Most sessions are 45 minutes long and held weekly, with a 12-session minimum. This structure helps ensure consistent progress toward your goals. Learn more about why weekly sessions work best on our FAQs page!
During your initial phone consultation, we’ll set aside a regular weekly time for your appointments. This time is yours—we won’t book anyone else in your spot.
If you need to miss a session, we ask that you cancel at least 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged the full session fee. Feeling under the weather or unable to make it in person? We’ve got you covered! Virtual sessions are available through our secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, doxy.me. It’s easy to use on both phones and computers, and your therapist will send you a private waiting room link before your appointment.

Why We’re Out-of-Network Providers
At Compassionate Counseling St. Louis, we’ve chosen to remain out-of-network providers because it allows us to focus entirely on what’s best for you or your child. Many insurance plans place restrictions on therapy, such as limiting the number of sessions, dictating session length, or requiring specific diagnoses to approve treatment. These limitations can make it harder to provide the tailored, in-depth care you deserve.
What Does Out-of-Network Mean for You?
Many insurance companies offer Out-of-Network (OON) reimbursement, meaning they can reimburse you a portion of your session fee. While it varies from plan to plan, it can be a helpful way to offset the cost of therapy.
How Does It Work?
The process can feel a bit overwhelming, so we’ve created our downloadable Insurance Reimbursement Guide below to walk you through the steps. It includes details on how to check your benefits, what to ask your insurance company, and how to submit claims.
Why Do Therapists Often Avoid Taking Insurance?
We get it - it’s frustrating when you can’t find a therapist who takes your insurance. Unfortunately, insurance companies often don’t reimburse therapists fairly or impose restrictions that can compromise the quality of care. Here’s what we prioritize instead:
Flexibility: Deciding together how many sessions you need, not what an insurance company mandates.
Session Quality: Offering sessions that are long enough to address your goals without feeling rushed.
Diagnosis Freedom: Working on what’s really going on, not just fitting into a pre-approved diagnosis.
We Understand Therapy is an Investment
We know therapy is a financial commitment, and it’s not always easy to fit into your budget. If Out-of-Network reimbursement isn’t an option for you, we’re happy to:
Recommend in-network therapists in your area (though many may have waitlists).
Suggest virtual parent coaching or courses with trusted providers.
Explore other ways to make sure your family feels supported.
If you have questions about your insurance benefits or want to know more about reimbursement options, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help you navigate this process so you can focus on what matters most: helping your child to feel better.

Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)
Under the No Surprises Act, you can request a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) at any time. This outlines your expected costs based on a typical therapy schedule. All new clients receive this estimate upfront, and if your costs differ significantly, you can file a report as detailed in your GFE.
While we typically start with a 12-session plan, many clients continue therapy beyond that. Additional sessions, extended session lengths, or crisis appointments may increase your total costs. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out.
